Challenge
Pet health data lives in silos. Practice management, labs, imaging and owner apps rarely speak the same language - and the people who need it most use it under very different conditions. Veterinarians and their assistants are specialists running a clinic on a tight schedule; pet owners are emotional, non-technical, and want to follow what is happening to their animal in plain language.
Pet Health Data and Pet Health Booklet had to bring those two worlds together: dense, fast and dashboard-driven for the clinic; calm, spacious and trustworthy for the home. One pet record, two faces.
Approach
We worked with Pet Health Data AG alongside Arpage AG, who led the development across both portals. We owned the disciplines that turn a codebase into a regulated-grade product: requirement engineering, UX/UI design, application management, software testing and security testing, and technical operations.
Both portals share the same digital health record:
- Pet Health Data (PHD) - the veterinarian-facing web application. Dense dashboard layouts so specialists and their assistants reach the right pet record at a glance. Red as the brand colour - healthcare, Switzerland, decisive. Vets configure their clinic, invite their assistants, and onboard pet owners directly from the waiting room.
- Pet Health Booklet (PHB) - the pet-owner-facing application. More spacious, rounded corners, faded colours, less technical vocabulary. Green as the brand colour - calming, learning, trust. Owners create their pet’s digital health record, manage who has access, and follow what their veterinarians are doing with it.
What the platform delivers:
- Multi-vet collaboration on a single pet - the digital health record is the source of truth; several clinics can read and contribute according to the access the owner has granted.
- Specialist routing - the dysplasia evaluation workflow guides the vet through structured data entry and verification, then routes the request to the right specialist for each legislation. CT scans and similar studies can be shared nationwide for officially reviewed results.
- Practice and assistant delegation - veterinarians create their own practice, invite their assistants by email, share access with the whole clinic and revoke it the same way. Practices are reviewed by platform operators to keep the directory curated.
Behind the scenes:
- Stack - Java Spring Boot with JHipster on the backend, Angular on the frontend, Swagger as the API contract, PostgreSQL for storage. Development by the Arpage team.
- Cloud and operations - GCP for hosting, Kubernetes (with Helm charts) for application releases, Terraform for infrastructure-as-code. Run by Luzid as part of the technical operations engagement.
- Project flow - Redmine and Gantt charts for feature refinement, with the same disciplined lifecycle we apply to regulated software: ideation and roadmap, moodboard and style guide, wireframe, UX/UI prototype and design, software development, software testing, technical operation.
On the Luzid side, project coordination, UX/UI, engineering support, application management, software testing and security testing - shoulder to shoulder with the Arpage development team.
Outcome
A platform with two faces and one record. Veterinarians get a dashboard that respects their time; pet owners get an experience that respects their attachment to their animal. Specialist workflows like dysplasia evaluation are part of the product, not a side process. From 2021 to 2026 - five years with Pet Health Data AG, two production portals built around the same pet record, designed for the specialists and the families that depend on it.
